State TV PSM presenter Inaayath Ali has been arrested alongside two other individuals on allegations of drug use and trafficking.
Police said that the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit and Drug Enforcement unit had carried out a joint operation on Thursday where two residences in Male' were searched. During the search, Police found a rolled cigarette and rubber packets suspected to contain drugs. The combined weight of these come to 1,246g, Police said.
In relation to the case, Police arrested Inaayath, 34, Mariaaz, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, and siblings Mohamed Aish Ahmed, 34, and Aminath Illiyyeen Ahmed, 25 of Ma. Mazaage'.
At their remand hearing, the court ordered Aish to be held in custody for ten days, while the two women were remanded for seven days.
According to the remand order, urine tests administered to Inaayath and Illiyyeen returned positive results for drug use.
It further said that officers who attended the scene have reported that a large quantity of drugs were found in Illiyyeen's current residence. Search of a location linked to Aish resulted in the discovery of drugs weighing 1,246g.
The court order also stated that a hand rolled cigarette containing tobacco and drugs was found during the search of Inaayath's residence. Her ID card was also found at the location.
