United World College Maldives (UWC Maldives) has awarded scholarships to three students.
The scholarships facilitating higher education in India, Hong Kong and Canada were awarded this year to Iz Yala Binth Ali Shameem from N. Kudafari school, Yazan Abdulla Saeed from Brightway International School and Hawwa Ish'ha from Thaajuddeen School, UWC said.
The three awardees will be studying in India's Mahindra United World College, Hong Kong's Li Po Chun United World College and Canada's Pearson United World College.
The three students were chosen following a publicly announced scholarship application process, which included a two day selected camp and interviews.
UWC said that in their selection, the students' educational, technical and social skills, as well as critical thinking were taken into consideration.
At present, three students are pursuing higher education on UWC scholarships in Germany, China and South Africa.
The scholarship offers higher education opportunities at United World Colleges for students aged 15 to 17 who have completed, or are in the process of completing, grade 10. Students will earn an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
UWC Maldives Executive Committee Chair Zaheena Rasheed said that this opportunity has the potential to be life-changing.
