Guraidhoo Hospital foundation laid, deco chamber in service

The foundation for Th. Guraidhoo's hospital has been laid, with the first decompression chamber outside of Male' now ready for use at the island.

The 30-bed hospital had its foundation laid by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Thaa Atoll. 

The building that contains Guraidhoo's decompression chamber was opened under the name Senahiya Hyperbaric Center. This is the first chamber that has been set up by MNDF that has been placed outside of Male'. 

President Muizzu attended the opening ceremony this morning.

During the speech he gave to Guraidhoo residents last night, President Muizzu said that the center will fall under the operation of MNDF's Senahiya Hospital. The chamber was gifted by the Japanese government under free aid.

"It is a very modern and complete piece of equipment. Even if decompression sickness occurs below 100 meters, the chamber has the ability to treat it. It can even be used for oxygen therapy and more by doctors," said the President.

President Muizzu stated that as per his pledge, chambers will be placed at the relevant islands within four months.

The islands in question are Male', AA. Rashoo, GA. Villingili, GDh. Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah and Addu.

President Muizzu's pledges aside from the Guraidhoo Airport:

  • Road development work has been handed over to a company.
  • Announcement of a company that can build a modern football stadium. Signing will commence next month with practical work beginning next year, as per the President.
  • The President said that work has been scheduled to begin regarding the Fitness and Recreation Center.
  • Work on the Guraidhoo Children's Park will begin this year.
  • ID cards and passports services to begin this November.
  • Last night, President Muizzu announced that the Guraidhoo Airport would open on 26th July 2027. Land reclamation of the airport has been completed. The project that has been signed and handed over to MACL.
  • Seven hectares of land will be reclaimed for Guraidhoo.
  • Next year's budget will allocate for the building of 100 housing units in Guraidhoo.
