Maldivian medical graduate found dead in Philippines

A Maldivian student preparing to return home after completing his medical studies in Philippines was found dead.

The deceased has been identified as Humaid Mohamed, from Noonu Atoll Holhudhoo, Sword.

According to family sources, Humaid was discovered collapsed in his apartment after relatives in Maldives were unable to reach him by phone. Concerned, they contacted another Maldivian living in the same house, who then found him unresponsive in his room.

He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Residents of Holhudhoo said Humaid had spoken to his mother yesterday morning and was due to fly to Male' later that night after his graduation.

His luggage had already been packed when he was found.

Family members who had gone to Velana International Airport to welcome him were concerned when Humaid did not arrive on the scheduled flight and had called his housemate to find out what had happened.

The sudden passing of Humaid has left his family and friends deeply saddened.
