Maavah killing: Mohamed Ibrahim charged with first-degree murder

Prosecutor General's (PG) Office said that Mohamed Ibrahim has two charges against him under the Prohibition of Intimidation and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act.

Prosecution has charged Mohamed Ibrahim accused with first-degree murder of Moosa Ibrahim, L. Maavah. The crime occurred in July where Mohamed Ibrahim stabbed with a knife.

Mohamed Ibrahim (HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, Asareemanzil) handed himself over to the authorities after he had assaulted Moosa Ibrahim due to an altercation in Maavah.

The Prosecutor General's (PG) Office said that Mohamed Ibrahim has two charges against him under the Prohibition of Intimidation and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act. The first charge is the crime of intentional homicide under Article 5 of the act.

If proven, Mohamed Ibrahim will be sentenced to death. 

The second charge is the crime of carrying around a sharp object in a public space without any valid reason under Article 3 of the act. The punishment for this crime is a prison sentence between six to 12 months.

When Mohamed Ibrahim was accused of the murder of Moosa Ibrahim, he was remanded in custody from 28th July until the trial ended. The Police have stated that Mohamed Ibrahim has a drug record as well.

Police said that they had finished investigating the case this Tuesday, with them having sent their report to the PG Office and being accepted by them.

According to police, Maavah Health Centre confirmed Moosa’s death upon arrival after he was stabbed in the neck during a clash with Mohamed.

Police also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Sources from the island told Mihaaru News that the confrontation followed two days after a dispute over unpaid drugs purchased from Moosa.
