Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Family Court Chief Judge Ibrahim Mahir as a judge of the High Court.
Fourteen candidates had contested two vacant High Court seats. Mahir was selected during a JSC meeting held this morning, receiving the highest marks among the candidates.
The appointment ceremony is scheduled for 2 pm today.
Initially, the JSC had decided to appoint former Civil Court Judge Abdullah Jameel Moosa and former Home Ministry Deputy Minister Mohamed Shaheed. However, Shaheed withdrew amid criticism of the decision, prompting the reannouncement of the post.
The two High Court vacancies arose following the recent appointment of former Chief Justice Hussain Shaheed and Justice Mohamed Saleem to the Supreme Court.
