Four arrested in Hulhumale’ drug raids

Police have arrested four individuals following drug raids on two apartments in Hulhumale’.

According to Maldives Police Service, officers from Counter Narcotics Intelligence seized 24 grams of suspected drugs, 363 illicit pills, and MVR 4,500 in cash during the operation.

Those arrested include Ahmed Saffan, 26, from Sh. Feydhoo; Shana, 32, from Male'; and two Bangladeshi nationals, Farooq Chowkidar, 50, and Safiq, 50.

Criminal Court remanded Shana in custody for 10 days, citing positive drug tests and the recovery of items linked to her rented residence. Her defence, however, denied any connection to the premises or the drugs seized.

Saffan, who admitted to drug use and requested treatment, was remanded for 15 days. He also claimed ownership of the substances found in his room.

Meanwhile, the two Bangladeshi suspects were remanded for 15 days after admitting the presence of prohibited medication in their residence. Police said their actions indicated that the drugs were used in other criminal activities. The said that others were also involved in the crime.
