President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the newly launched Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service in Thaa Atoll marks the beginning of efforts to put the atoll on the “development radar,” fulfilling a key pledge of his administration.
Speaking during his ongoing tour of Thaa atoll, the President noted that residents have long faced difficulties due to limited transport options, and the new ferry service would bring significant relief.
“This ferry system will be a great relief to your suffering,” he said, adding that the government’s next step is to introduce additional speedboats to the system, cutting travel times on longer routes.
While acknowledging a delay in his earlier commitment to complete the nationwide ferry network by the end of this year, President Muizzu said the project would be finished by March, with additional time allocated for additional works.
During his visit to Veymandoo, three agreements were signed, including projects to develop roads, reconstruct the harbour, and reclaim 25 hectares of land. The President assured residents that work would begin promptly and continue without disruption.
