Maldives and the Republic of Azerbaijan have signed an agreement on the mutual exemption of visa requirements, granting visa-free entry for holders of ordinary passports from both countries for stays of up to 90 days.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Maldives was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, while Azerbaijan was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Jayhun Bayramov.

The new arrangement builds on the existing unilateral visa-free regimes between the two countries. It also expands on the agreement signed last year, which exempted Maldivian nationals holding diplomatic and official passports from visa requirements for up to 90 days.

Officials said the development reflects the growing cooperation between Maldives and Azerbaijan and is expected to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote greater opportunities in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
