President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced an additional 200 loan opportunities in the second round of applications to install refrigerated sea water (RSW) systems will open ahead of this year’s Fishermen’s Day.
Speaking to residents of Thaa Atoll Hirilandhoo during his tour of the atoll, President Muizzu said the island had secured a relatively high number of loans in the first round.
The President also revealed that a cold storage facility for Hirilandhoo would be included in next year’s budget, with construction to begin in January. He pledged to reclaim additional land for industrial use and said the development plan would incorporate a land-use strategy for the new area.
During the visit, several development projects were launched, including roadworks, a new council secretariat, a mosque, and a fitness and recreation centre. An agreement was also signed to upgrade the island’s harbour, which President Muizzu promised would be expedited.
He further assured that the school development project would be completed in time for the new academic year, equipped with enhanced resources, and announced that a football ground would be developed next year.
