A man has been remanded in custody for 15 days after a pedestrian was struck by his car in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 pm on Sunday near the MACL Tower on Hithigas Magu, when a 63-year-old man was hit while crossing at a zebra crossing.
The victim sustained a broken leg and is receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), police said.
The driver fled the scene without assisting the injured man. He was produced in court yesterday and remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police said the driver, identified as Khalid Abdulla Ali, 57, a businessman from Dhandimagu, Fuvahmulah City, was also assessed for health reasons and ordered to receive treatment based on medical advice. Authorities added that the remand was issued in the interest of community safety and security.
