STO chili import won't trouble Kandoodhoo: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu gave his assurance and said that even though chili will be imported by State Trading Organization (STO), it will be done ensuring that it won't cause any difficulties to Kandoodhoo farmers. Chili was named as part of STO's efforts to permanently import 10 types of fruits.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that even though chili will be imported by State Trading Organization (STO), it will be done ensuring that it won't cause any difficulties to Kandoodhoo farmers. President Muizzu, said this during his visit to Kandoodhoo and gave his assurance. Chili was included as part of STO's efforts to permanently import 10 types of fruits.

"I give my complete assurance in the matter. It will be done in such a way that it doesn't affect your business. I assure you that it will be set up so that STO will bring in chili at your prices so that you can continue to profit and not experience any losses," said President Muizzu.

The President also stated that one of the aims of the administration is to strengthen the agriculture industry. He further pledged to facilitate a better path for the farmers of Kandoodhoo, along with the facilitation of better tree planting options.

President Muizzu said that relevant parties will soon be sent to Kandoodhoo so that a discussion on the matter can be held.

The President went on to say that STO was importing in bulk and plans to sell at the market in order to improve food security. This also falls under a policy in his manifesto, said the President.

  5. Passion fruit
  6. Mango
  7. Papaya
  8. Watermelon
  9. Chili
  10. Grapes

Vegetables:

  1. Red onion
  2. Ginger
  3. Carrot
  4. Eggplant
  5. Sweet potato
  6. Garlic
  7. Potato
  8. Cabbage
  9. Pumpkin
  10. Spinach

Miscellaneous:

  1. Yellow lentil
  2. Chicken eggs
  3. Coconut

95 percent of the below 500 population of Kandoodhoo works in chili farming, which marks an increase in chili fields and supply.

Even if all the chili they make is simultaneously taken to one location to be sold, its prices can be a bit on the higher side.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that with STO's permanent import of 10 types of fruits and vegetables, lentil, chicken eggs and coconut, their prices will see a drop in the market from 15th October onward.
