The southwestern beach of V. Fulidhoo has been contaminated by a crude oil spill, with MNDF searching whether more oil has been spilled in the area, said by MNDF.
MNDF said that their Halaveli vessel, which belongs to the Coast Guard Second Squadron of the MNDF Male' Area, is currently checking the surrounding area.
Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz told Mihaaru News that the oil had washed up to the southwestern beach of the island.
As per Imthiyaz, the oil may have come from a docked oil barge at Fulidhoo that may have leaked or released the oil into the sea.
Due to a sizable amount of oil washing up to the shore, the island's beach has been blackened.
The Fulidhoo Council President stated that due to the vast oil spill, the southern beach of the island has oil washing ashore.
