President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced more development projects for Th. Vilufushi, with some practical work on some projects starting today.
The President left yesterday to visit Thaa Atoll, with practical work on Vilufushi's airport starting today. MACL was given the tasks of land reclamation for the airport and airport operations. The airport is one of the biggest hopes of Vilufushi residents.
As per President Muizzu, the airport will be finished and ready for use two and a half years from today. The President gave the residents of Vilufushi his certainty that the project won't take longer than that.
"If anything, it will finish earlier than expected," said the President.
Along with practical work for the airport starting today, a project to build a 30-bed hospital has also begun. The project was handed to MTCC.
The foundation for the hospital was laid by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim during a ceremony which was attended by President Muizzu today.

Projects the administration have pledged to Vilufushi:
- A road modernization project was handed to RDC last night. The road will be made to include a ring road that surrounds the island.
- MTCC was handed the project to develop a football stadium.
- 200 housing unit project for next year. The President stated the project will include those who had received plots. He also stated that the project will move forward with the opinions of the council.
- Building of a court to accommodate futsal and handball to begin this year.
- An MNU campus will be established next year.
- A BML Branch foundation was laid today. The President announced that the branch will open and begin its services before March 2026.
- Establishment of a Public Works Unit.
- Development of the Vilufushi harbor to begin next year.
President Muizzu stated last night that MTCC was given a timeline of 18 months to complete the construction of the hospital. The President gave his assurance that the hospital will have more specialties, buildings and resources developed.
"We will provide you with a complete and modern hospital," said President Muizzu.
The President also said that they are working towards finding a permanent gynecologist and a pediatrician as a temporary solution to the difficulties currently faced by Vilufushi.

President Muizzu went on to say that the policy of this administration is to provide a way for island residents to have access to the best services possible in their own island. The President also said that this would decrease expenses from the residents' pockets.
The President stated last night that the administration is prioritizing on providing electricity and water to the buildings constructed after the 26th December 2004 tsunami. President Muizzu gave his assurance that it would be done before the end of the year. This also includes as to who would receive the houses as well, said the President.
