Crude oil contaminates Fulidhoo beach

As per Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz, the oil may have come from a docked oil barge at Fulidhoo that may have leaked or released the oil into the sea.

Crude oil that had spilled into the ocean has washed up onto and contaminated the shore of Fulidhoo.

Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz told Mihaaru News that the oil had washed up to the southwestern beach of the island.

As per Imthiyaz, the oil may have come from a docked oil barge at Fulidhoo that may have leaked or released the oil into the sea.

"Our biggest assumption is that the oil was released from an oil barge. We believe it to be crude oil," said Imthiyaz.

The Fulidhoo Council President stated that due to the vast oil spill, the southern beach of the island has oil washing ashore.

The council said that they are working to remove the oil.
