President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the 900th anniversary of the Maldives embracing Islam next year will be celebrated nationwide.

The President noted that it is a significant and historic milestone that this generation of Maldivians will experience. He made these remarks during his national address commemorating the anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

To honor this milestone, the Government is planning a series of nationwide programs aimed at reviving Islamic and national spirit while fostering greater unity among the people.

There are many lessons to be learned from the Maldives, embracing Islam 899 years ago, and since then, nine centuries have passed with the population being entirely Muslim.

“With firm determination to allow no religion other than Islam and to eliminate everything contrary to Islamic principles from this land,” the President stated in his address.

The President said that Islam builds moral and virtuous individuals. He noted that our Beloved Prophet (SAW) spent so much of his time teaching the Islamic faith, good manners, and effective communication.

The President emphasized that one of the Government’s foremost responsibilities is to nurture wise Maldivian citizens through proper education and upbringing for children, alongside continuing infrastructural development. He also stressed the importance of national unity, kind speech, and a deepened love for the religion.

“The beauty of the Maldives shines brighter than that of other countries, and the world recognizes the Maldives’ unique charm as an unparalleled example, rooted in the beautiful Islamic values instilled in its people since ancient times,” he said. “Hopefully, the government will always strive to maintain Maldives as a strong Islamic state and a nation that leads in defending the Ummah,” he added in his address.
