President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a 50-unit housing project for Thaa Atoll Madifushi, to be launched in 2026.
Speaking to the community during his ongoing tour of four atolls, President Muizzu said home ownership remained the government’s top priority. The project, he added, would either be carried out as a single housing scheme or through units built on individual plots, depending on residents’ preferences.
Alongside the announcement, several initiatives were inaugurated on the island, including the groundbreaking of a new school building, a fitness and recreation centre, an extension to the health centre, and the start of modern road development.
President Muizzu assured residents that work on these projects would move ahead soon. He said the island’s ice plant would be completed in the near future and pledged that Madifushi would receive a police vehicle before the end of the year.
During the visit, Thaa Atoll Ufuriyaa and Thaa Atoll Kolhufushi were formally placed under Madifushi’s jurisdiction, with the revised administrative chart published in the Gazette on 18 September.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to the happiness and well-being of residents while pursuing projects to address the long-term needs of the community.
