President’s Office YouTube channel has been hacked and removed after broadcasting false information about a cryptocurrency.

The channel, which normally streams events attended by the President, Vice President and First Lady, was hacked during a live broadcast of a meeting held as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tour of some islands.

Following the hack, YouTube removed the channel for violating its guidelines.

President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel said the President’s Office cyber security team is investigating the incident.

“We will know what happened when they finish their work,” he said.

The channel had featured official videos of Presidents and Vice Presidents dating back to the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen. It is currently unclear what has happened to the channel's previous content.
