Dhiggaru MP and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim has praised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for addressing problems that previous governments avoided.

Speaking to residents of Dhiggaru during President Muizzu’s tour of Meemu atoll, Nazim said the economy had been struggling when the administration came to power, but that the president had worked over the past 18 months to restart stalled projects and launch new ones.

“Not everything is about building an infrastructure,” Nazim said, adding that the President had also prioritized structural reforms.

“He is solving many issues that no leader or government has dared to touch or solve before.”

He said that the President’s has made efforts to tackle undocumented migrant labour, reform the judiciary and confront the country’s drug problem by targeting major dealers and imposing tougher sentences.

Nazim said these were not always popular decisions, but argued they showed the President’s resolve.

“Even with criticism, he is doing them,” he said.

Nazim added that the government had entered its second year with a renewed focus on delivering the projects and services most needed by the public.
