Agreement signed to develop 30 bed hospital in Dhiggaru

The new Dhiggaru hospital, to be built by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), is expected to cost MVR 105 million. The agreement was signed by Nazim on behalf of the ministry and MTCC managing director Ahmed Saudhee.

Agreements to upgrade Meemu atoll Mulah health centre into a hospital and to build a new 30-bed hospital in Dhiggaru, in the same atoll.

The projects were launched during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s current tour of the atoll.

Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim laid the foundation stone for the new Mulah hospital on a plot adjacent to the existing health centre this morning. 

Speaking to residents last night, President Muizzu said the upgrade would bring “major changes” to healthcare in the area, and pledged the project would be completed swiftly.

The MVR 26.5 million contract was awarded to the Regional Development and Construction Company (RDC) earlier in May.

President Muizzu said the project would significantly improve healthcare provision across the atoll. Dhiggaru MP and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim described it as a crucial step towards strengthening basic services.

Addressing the people of the island, the President said the hospital would bring about major changes in the health sector of the atoll.
