HA. Dhidhdhoo’s “Mega Hoara” vessel, which was built at significant expense and brought into service earlier this year, has been salvaged after it ran aground.
Dhidhdhoo Council President Abdulla Rasheed said the vessel ran aground at N. Vavathi Kurolhi at around midnight while returning to Dhidhdhoo with cargo from Male'.
While the cause of the grounding remains unclear, Rasheed confirmed the vessel was later secured to another boat and salvaged.
Rasheed said that when the ship ran aground, the cargo was moved onto another vessel. He said that there were no damages to the cargo or any injuries sustained by the crew.
"We are checking the extent of the damages to the boat. We haven't received any details regarding any damage yet," said Rasheed.
The vessel was commissioned early this year, with it being around 98 feet long and costing MVR 12 million.
