Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has departed for New York, United States, to attend the United Nations General Assembly and participate in several high-level meetings. He is accompanied on this trip by Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Thoriq.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khaleel is scheduled to take part in multiple high-level discussions during the visit.

There has been no official confirmation regarding President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s attendance at this year’s UN General Assembly or related meetings. The President’s Office has not issued a statement on the matter.

One of the key topics on the agenda at the UN General Assembly will be the recognition of the State of Palestine by countries that have not previously done so. This year, the high-level meetings of the General Assembly will continue for a week.

Countries that have already announced their recognition of the State of Palestine include Australia, Canada, Belgium, and France.

The Maldives has consistently been a strong advocate for Palestinian rights and has regularly condemned Israel’s actions against the Palestinian people.
