Maldives has been invited to participate in the Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival in India.
A statement by National Centre for the Arts (NCA) said the invitation was extended by India’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.
Films produced between 2020 and 2025 are eligible for submission.
The centre has now opened the opportunity for Maldivian filmmakers to submit their work. Entries may be sent in Blu-ray, DCP, MP4 or DVD formats and must be submitted by 31 December.
The Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival, first held in 1995, is India’s third-oldest film festival.
While Maldivian films have featured at the SAARC Cultural Centre’s Film Festival often the main international platform for local filmmakers, participation in the Kolkata festival marks another opportunity for exposure abroad.
Maldivian films have also won awards at the SAARC festival in recent years.
