The current administration has announced more development projects for F. Nilandhoo, with new agreements having been signed last night.

The signing was held last night at Nilandhoo during a meeting upon President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's arrival. The President is currently conducting a visit to Faafu Atoll which started yesterday.

Yesterday the President repeatedly highlighted the most important project out of all of them, the Nilandhoo Airport project.

"The most important pledge is the airport," said President Muizzu.

With the land reclamation for the airport by MTCC coming to an end, the agreement regarding the civil and operational work was signed by the government and MACL last night.

The President said as he was referencing the agreement they will be able to complete the Nilandhoo Airport project within 30 months or two and half years starting from yesterday.

Inaugurated/signed projects at Nilandhoo last night:

  • Passport issuance.
  • STO and Ishaan Investment signed an agreement to build a fuel shed.
  • Signing with MTCC to develop the roads.
  • Signing with MACL to hand over the airport's civil and operational work.
  • MTCC was handed the work to reclaim land for a cannery and to build a harbor.
  • Signed with the council to begin WAMCO services.

As per the President, the practical work to implement a sewerage system (which started today) will take two years to complete at the most. The system will also be a permanent solution, said the President.

"Regarding the water grid, the only things left to finish are the connections and the allocation of some plants, things like that. Those works are underway. Around 90 percent of the work has been completed. We estimate that it will finish in around two months at the most. No matter what happens, we ensure that it will be done within this year," said President Muizzu.

Projects set for next year:

  • A quality Islamic Center to be built at Nilandhoo.
  • As Nilandhoo is to become an urban center, a sports complex or sports center is to be built. The President announced that the project will begin early next year.

As per the President, even though dialysis services are ready to begin at Nilandhoo Hospital (Faafu Atoll Hospital), the reason it was delayed was because there is no proper water system in the island.

President Muizzu said that MTCC being handed the work to reclaim land for a cannery and to build a harbor will be funded by the current administration. MTCC signed with an international firm for the cannery project.

"This will also be a really successful project. This work is of the highest priority in order to build the factory," said the President.

Regarding the pledge to supply fuel to at least one island in each atoll, President Muizzu has stated that work to build a fuel station in Nilandhoo was handed over last night.

He stated that a police station of good quality, along with a new council office building will also be constructed, with both projects officially starting sometime today.

President Muizzu said that the state budget has allocated funds to build 200 housing units, with work for that project moving forward. However, no details were given.

The President went on to say that Nilandhoo development projects are being done in a specific order. He also stated that the administration is prioritizing every project.
