During his official visit to Pakistan, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah met with Chairman of the Senate, Yousuf Raza Gilani, who leads the upper house of Pakistan’s legislature.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, the meeting focused on areas where the Maldives and Pakistan could further strengthen their long-standing bilateral relationship.
Speaker Abdul Raheem acknowledged Pakistan’s continued assistance to the Maldives, particularly in the fields of education, health, and trade.
He also expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for its support in the construction of the Maldives Parliament building, which he described as a symbol of the strong ties between the two nations.
In addition to bilateral relations, the two leaders discussed broader issues affecting the Islamic Ummah.
Speaker Abdul Raheem criticized Israel's continuous atrocities against the Palestinian people in Gaza, stating that the Maldives will continue to support the Palestinian cause.
Speaker Abdul Raheem arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for the official visit.
He is accompanied by a delegation, including MP Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo Constituency), MP Husni Mubarak (Manadhoo Constituency), MP Yoosuf Nasheed (Gan Constituency), and MP Abdullah Shazeem (Hulhumale Central Constituency).
