A 30-bed hospital is to be built in Felidhoo, Vaavu Atoll, with the foundation stone laid yesterday during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island.
The foundation stone was laid by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim at a ceremony marking the start of the project, which has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
In recent months, President Muizzu has launched a series of hospital construction projects during his visits to islands across the country.
Addressing Felidhoo residents, the President said the government’s policy was to provide essential services, such as ATMs and healthcare, at island level rather than forcing people to travel to Male'.
“Our aim is to ensure every citizen can access high quality services in their own island, saving on significant expense,” he said.
