President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that his administration’s policy is to decentralize services and ensure citizens across the atolls have access to the same quality of services as those in the capital.
Speaking during his visit to Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll last night, as part of his ongoing tour of four atolls, the President said the government’s initiatives such as establishing ATMs and introducing ID card and passport services in islands are aimed at bringing services closer to the people.
“In the past, everything depended on going to Male' to get things done. I don’t believe in that. That’s why we are building ATMs in every island. This will end the hassle of spending MVR 100 or 200 out of pocket just to access services, and it has already brought a lot of ease,” President Muizzu said.
He said that residents of Male' and those living in the smallest islands are equal in rights and access, noting that his government’s policy is to reflect that equality in service delivery.
The President also said that ID card services will be launched in at least one island in each atoll before the end of next month.
“Our policy is to ensure that every citizen can access the highest quality services in their own islands. This will save significant expenses from the pockets of the people,” he added.
