Maldives Immigration has announced a temporary halt to passport card services.

In a post on X, Immigration said that the service is being suspended for the time being due to ongoing system upgrading efforts.

Passport cards were introduced in 2017, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

The card allows commercial transactions, with the option of including ID cards and license along with cash cards in the passport card.

The passport card can be used in both domestic and international travel. It also facilitates Allied Insurance services through the card.

Although the passport card can be used in any country that has adopted e-services, Maldives Immigration advices carrying physical passports as well during international travel.
