The first ever material recovery facility in Maldives has been established and opened in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.
The facility was opened under a project to reduce plastic and waste management, with the Maldives Authentic Crafts Cooperative Society and Kulhudhuffushi City Council working together to make it a reality.
The opening ceremony was held at the Kulhudhuffushi landfill and was inaugurated by South Asia Cooperative Environment Program (SACEP) Director General Norbu Wangchuk.

The Kulhudhuffushi Council said that the purpose of the facility is to recycle aluminium and minerals, along with stabilizing the waste management system.
Equipment such as two waste balers, four island pickups, a hydraulic palette stack and hydraulic palette truck, along with employee safety equipment was provided, the city council said.
WAMCO employees have also been trained in order to run the facility in a sustainable manner.
