Parliament has today approved the appointment of Mohamed Shafeeq Mamdhooh to the post of Vice President at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
At the sixth extraordinary sitting of the parliament, 67 out of 68 members voted in favour of Shafeeq's appointment. One member, Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, voted against.
Shafeeq was appointed as an HRCM member on September 8. He previously served as CEO of Local Government Authority (LGA).
The current President of the HRCM is Mariyam Muna.
Parliament today also granted approval for the appointment of Mohamed Mujuthaz as Civil Service Commission President, and Mohamed Nasih as Vice President.
Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah has also previously said that the main purpose of today's extraordinary sitting of the parliament is to work on the appointment of leaders to these two commissions.
