The government has announced that prizes and medals for Quran memorization will be presented to Hafiz on the 27th night of Ramadan.
At last year’s ceremony, Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that the graduation event would be held annually on this date, considered one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar.
The President’s Office confirmed that this year’s awards will also take place on the 27th of Ramadan, noting that the President decided it was the most fitting night to honor the Hafiz.
Last year marked the first dedicated national ceremony for Hafiz in Maldives.
According to figures shared by the Quran Center in April, there are currently 266 Hafiz in the country, including 126 women and 140 men.
In addition, the government recently doubled the Hafiz allowance from MVR 2,000 to MVR 4,000, with the revised stipend already being deposited.
