President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today submitted Mohamed Shafeeq Mamdhooh's name to parliament for approval as Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

The nomination was announced in today's parliament sitting, and has been then forwarded to the Committee on Independent Institutions for review.

Shafeeq was appointed as a member of HRCM on September 8. He has previously served as CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA).

In addition to HRCM Vice President, the President has also nominated names for appointment as Civil Service Commission (CSC) President and Vice President.

He nominated newly appointed member Mohamed Mujuthaz for CSC President, and current commission president Mohamed Nasih for Vice President.

Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah has also previously said that the main purpose of today's extraordinary sitting of the parliament is to work on the appointment of leaders to these two commissions.
