Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that land plots in Gulhi Falhu are now being handed over to the recipients of the Binveriya housing scheme.

In a post on X, the Minister announced that handover of land plots in Gulhi Falhu commenced yesterday. He added that individuals granted land plots currently occupied by temporary construction sites will receive their allocations once the contractor vacates the area.

The previous registries were cancelled after some land plots previously granted in Giraavaru Falhu were changed to Gulhi Falhu after this administration brought changes to the Gulhi Falhu land use plan drafted by the previous government. Following this, draws for plot allocation were re-conducted in May.

Earlier this month, the Housing Ministry said that new registrations have now been issued to 1,260 recipients. Registrations have been issued since July, with the plots where boundaries are marked to be handed over to recipients within this week.

Although applications for new registries were opened in August, some recipients continue to refuse to sign the new agreements for land allocation. They claim that the new agreement has provisions that contravene the policies on issuing land.

At the time, the ministry responded to this stating that the previous agreement had provisions which contravened the Land Act, citing this as a reason for requiring new agreements.

The government has decided to issue 2,438 land plots from Gulhi Falhu. This includes 1,347 land plots previously set to be issued from Giraavaru Falhu. Under the Binveriya scheme, 9,031 land plots are to be issued to Male' residents from Gulhi Falhu, Giraavaru Falhu and Hulhumale'.
