Maldivian Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas has announced that around 100 people have applied for the Cadet Pilot job position posted by the company.

Iyas has also stated that out of the 100 applicants for the four Cadet Pilot positions, most of the people had applied for ATR.

Maldivian has announced two job positions for ATR pilots in July and two job positions for seaplane pilots last month.

A large number of youth who completed pilot courses have been unable to find employment.

The number of pilots have increased due to the previous administration giving out loan schemes to around 500 individuals to study the craft. With that, a lot of pilots were left unemployed post-course.

In a press conference held by the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry in April, Minister Mohamed Ameen stated that around 200 pilots were unemployed even during that time.

Two companies in Maldives take on Cadet Pilots, with them being TMA and Maldivian.

Ameen had stated that even with both companies combined, only about 25 job opportunities come about in a year.

He went on to say that, taking into account the situation, it is the government's responsibility to announce scholarships in line with the job opportunities that are and will be available.
