A' Level studies have commenced today, with 3200 students enrolled.
Speaking on State TV PSM, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said that the number of students pursuing A' Level studies is higher this year compared to previous years.
Each year, close to 7000 students complete their O' Level studies. Of these, around 2000 go on to do A' Levels.
This year, the number has risen to 3000, the Minister noted.
The minister urged the new students to persevere to attain high marks in their A' Levels.
"This is the last stage of school to prepare you for life. This stage of education will equip you with the skills and competence to go forward whether you join a university, work in a company or do your work," the minister said.
The government set in place many changes this year in a bid to increase the number of students who enroll for A' Level studies.
This includes the re-opening of the old CHSE building in Male', and lowering the criteria for enrollment.
A' Level studies have also been introduced in 12 additional schools this year.
