He noted that although efforts on the Act began as far back as 2009, it had remained pending until this year.

The AG Office Act ensures to an even higher degree that the work of the office is conducted objectively, based solely on the Constitution and laws, he said.

He said that the Act coming into force would lead to many benefits to the office's staff and bring revolutionary changes to its operations.

The submission of the bill to parliament and the work on the bill demonstrates the President's sincerity, Usham stated.

Usham also thanked all past Attorney Generals who have served since the Attorney General's Office was established as a separate entity 75 years ago.

Plaques were also presented to many who served for long periods in the Attorney General's Office throughout its history.

The Attorney General's Office as a separate institution was first set up in Maldives in 1950.
