Expatriate arrested for illegal cigarette trade with MVR 53,000 in cash

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested for illegally selling cigarettes in Hulhumale', recovering more than MVR 53,000 in cash and a large stash of tobacco-related items.

The suspect, identified as MD Saddam Hussain, 32, was taken into custody yesterday near the Kanneli Jetty fishing pier in Hulhumalé Phase I.

During the search, police seized MVR 53,000 in cash, multiple cigarette packs, tobacco, cigarette filters, Rizla rolling papers, and a cigarette rolling machine.

Police said that he was arrested on suspicion of engaging in the illegal sale of cigarettes.
