Naif for MJA President, Shahuzan Vice President

Last night, Ahmed Naif was elected as the President of the Maldives Journalism Association (MJA), with Mohamed Shahuzan being elected as the Vice President.

Last night, Ahmed Naif was elected as the President of the Maldives Journalism Association (MJA), with Mohamed Shahuzan being elected as the Vice President.

Due to MJA’s current term coming to an end, the congress to elect a new ExCo was held last night. During congress, Dhauru Senior Associate Editor Ahmed Naif was the only one to run for MJA President.

95 percent of the votes were in favor of Naif being elected. Naif has been the Secretary General of the MJA for its last two terms.

Naif began his career in journalism 15 years ago in Sun Online. He went to Haveeru afterwards then created Avas Online and worked there for a period of time.

Mohamed Shahuzan of Adhadhu was the only individual to run for Vice President of MJA. He received 79 percent of member votes.

The position for Secretary General was voted on as well, with One Online’s Ali Rifshan being elected. He was the President of the MJA for its last two terms.

Mohamed Mahil was elected as an ExCo member, with Dhauru News’ Mohamed Usham being elected as MJA’s Budget Secretary. Mariyam Zaha and Nashama Mohamed were elected as the two female members in the ExCo.

Each MJA term lasts three years. The current term will come to an end next Thursday, with the new ExCo coming into power then.
