The government has announced the requirements for the construction of a new court complex in Hulhumalé.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the bidding process will follow international competitive bidding standards, in line with the Finance Rules. It will also adhere to the Construction Practitioners Rules and the Foreign Direct Investment Policy set by the Ministry of Housing.

To participate in the bid, interested parties must pay a non-refundable registration fee of MVR 1,500. In addition, a bid security of MVR 4.3 million is required, valid for 148 days from the bid opening date.

Only registered users on the official bidding portal will be eligible to submit their proposals.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that the court complex is being developed to address the ongoing issue of limited space for courts in the region. He emphasized that one of the major challenges in the criminal justice system is the delay in conducting hearings and delivering verdicts.

Currently, the Criminal Court and Drug Court have been temporarily relocated to the former COVID-19 facility in Hulhumalé. However, this is a short-term solution until the new court complex is completed.
