In order to solve the issue of fake certifications, the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has made it so that the powers of attestation only belong to the authority and no other organization.

The submission of fake certificates has become quite a common issue. Some of these instances have even been reported to the Police. Prior to this, along with MQA, certificates released from other state organizations would also get attested by lawyers and law firms.

However, yesterday, MQA released a guideline where it states that now only they have the power to attest certificates.

As per the guideline, the stamp of attestation can only be used for:

  • Validating certificate copies.
  • Assessment report copies.
  • Document copies of the Recognition of the Intended Program.
  • Copies of certificates of foreign parties after the copies have been approved.

As per the guideline, a fee between MVR 10 and MVR 20 is required for attestation.

During today's press conference regarding the topic, MQA CEO Fizana Rasheed stated that only MQA will be attesting documents that are released by them. She also said that no other place can attest from here on out.

"A lot of people are questioning whether to come to Male' for attestation. Even now we are releasing our documents from Male'," said Fizana.

She has also stated that a portal is being created for convenience.

Under their guidelines, only the documents that are released by them can be attested. And so, course certificates from Maldivian universities and colleges that have been cleared by MQA will not have to submit their certificates for attestation.
