Percentage of State revenue to be allocated to judiciary

In a bid to financially empower the judiciary, a percentage of State revenue will be allocated for the judiciary in next year's budget, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced today. 

In a post on X this morning, the President said that financial empowerment is key for the judiciary to run independently. Steps that can be taken to achieve this were discussed at yesterday's cabinet meeting, he said. 

The President stated that yesterday’s discussions focused on initiating a major shift aimed at delivering unprecedented financial and administrative empowerment to the judiciary through next year’s budget.

A decision was made yesterday to allocate a determined percentage of State revenue to the judiciary as a block grant under set policies, he announced. 

President Muizzu stated that this amount would be higher than the current budget ceilings that have been set for the judiciary.
