MDP National Council member and former journalist Hussain Hassan was arrested last night.
Police have stated the arrest happened due to obstruction of police duties, where Hassan entered a scene where Police were conducting a drug operation in Male'. He proceeded to take pictures and videos. Police advised him to stop his actions to which Hassan argued back, subsequently leading to his arrest.
As per the Police media official, Hassan attempted to take pictures of evidence while going against Police orders. And so Hassan has been put under the authorities watch due to going against their orders and under charges of obstruction of police duties, as stated by the media official.
Police have not disclosed any information regarding the drug operation.
MDP have strongly condemned Hassan's arrest and demand he be released immediately. MDP has also stated that he was arrested in a "very cruel" manner.
