Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced that it will begin handing over keys to one of the residential towers built under the Gedhoruveriya housing project tomorrow.

As part of the project, FDC is constructing 4,000 apartments across 32 towers, each ranging from 17 to 18 storeys, in Hulhumalé.

According to an FDC official, the keys to one of the completed towers, Tower 14 of the “aan Hiyaa” blocks, will be handed over to eligible residents starting tomorrow.

Those who have completed their flat agreements will be able to pay the required security deposit through the FDC’s online portal later this week. Once the deposit is paid, they can receive their keys.

The FDC confirmed that flats will be handed over in phases as each tower is completed and once residents fulfill the agreement and deposit requirements.

Moving In: Booking Required

To move belongings into the new flats, residents must book a time slot through the FDC Hiyaa Portal. Moving in will be regulated to ensure a smooth process.

“Booking a slot is mandatory, especially for heavy items like furniture and appliances that can’t be carried by hand,” the FDC official explained. “Only after securing a slot can residents bring in such items at the designated time.”

Project Progress and Pricing

So far, agreements have been signed with around 3,105 applicants. The signing process continues in the order the towers are completed.

The Gedhoruveriya project—being carried out by two Indian contractors—offers both two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments:

  • Two-bedroom apartments: MVR 7,000/month Maintenance fee: MVR 1,000/month Security deposit: MVR 15,000
  • Three-bedroom apartments: MVR 9,500/month Maintenance fee: MVR 1,500/month Security deposit: MVR 25,000

Beneficiary List Update

In April, the government reviewed the list of flat recipients published by the previous administration. Following public concerns, it decided to prioritize the list released in November 2023.

Previously, the Ministry of Housing had stated that the flats would be ready for occupancy by this month.
