First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has urged healthcare professionals across the Maldives to work together to strengthen neonatal care.
Speaking at the opening of the two-day Neonatal Nurses Conference 2025 at Dharumavantha Hospital this morning, she reflected on Maldives’ history of neonatal care, describing it as a journey marked by heartbreaking challenges.
She praised the dedication of healthcare professionals but said more investment was needed in facilities, resources and specialist expertise.
First Lady Sajidha also highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancement in healthcare, noting that innovations in neonatal care could be adapted to Maldives. Conferences such as this, she said, could pave the way for their introduction.
Reflecting on the theme of this year’s conference, she said it resonated deeply with Maldivians and stressed the importance of putting its outcomes into practice through collective effort.
Officials from the Male' City Group of Hospitals also attended the opening ceremony.
