The five Parliament members that did not submit their financial statements after a year in office have done so after being given a 15-day notice.
The five Parliament members in question are:
- North Feydhoo MP Ismail Nizar (PNC).
- Central Machangoalhi MP Ahmed Zameer (PNC).
- West Maafannu MP Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim (PNC)
- Kurendhoo MP Mohamed Shamin (PNC)
- North Maafannu MP Mohamed Nazim (MNP
The five members submitted their financial statements to the Parliament, which is now on the official website, after the notice was served.
Under Article 77 of Parliament Regulations, if any member fails to submit their financial statements one year after they take their oath, they are issued a 15-day period of grace to do so.
If they still fail to submit their financial statements after the 15 days, their names will be announced during a parliamentary sitting and will be asked to vacate the Parliament floor.
Afterwards, they will only be allowed to return once they have submitted their financial statements.
A daily deduction from their salaries will be incurred if they still fail to submit their financial statements.
