President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today appointed two members to the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
The two newly appointed members of the commission are Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood, M. Poppy and Ahmed Magsoom, Seabreeze, S. Hulhudhoo.
The members took oath of office before Supreme Court Judge Mohamed Saleem at a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning. The President then presented them with letters of appointment.
Shafeeq previously filled the position of CEO at Local Government Authority (LGA).
The President initially forwarded to parliament the names of Shafeeq and Mohamed Faris Thoha for membership. However, after interview by Parliament's Human Rights Committee, Faris was rejected due to allegations against him.
Magsoom's appointment was passed after this.
