A year has gone by after the agreement for a new Thalassemia treatment hospital was signed, with no work having started on the project at all.
The agreement was signed on 15th October 2024 between the Health Ministry and two companies, with them being Meadow Asia Co Ltd and Chin Hin Group Berhad. As per the agreement, the hospital is set to be built at Hulhumale' Phase 2.
The agreement was signed by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim during the launch ceremony of the National Master Plan on Thalassemia Prevention, Control and Management. CEO and MD Stuart Jay signed on behalf of Meadow Asia Company, with Group CEO Roger Lin signing on behalf of Chin Hin Group.
However, a year after the agreement has been signed, no practical work has begun on the project.
An official from the Health Ministry has stated that administrative tasks are being done regarding the construction of the Thalassemia hospital. The official also stated that they are unsure when the practical work may begin.
The ministry has said before that funding for the three-floor hospital has been settled by Sinoma Industry Engineering Company.
The Thalassemia hospital will have the following facilities:
- Emergency room.
- Canteen.
- Kids play area.
- Laboratory.
- Blood transfusion unit.
- Blood and organ transplant unit.
- Radiology department.
