MET: Male' skies clear during eclipse, Addu might be cloudy

An official from MET has told Mihaaru News that it is their professional opinion that the weather in Male' will be clear and good in general. "However, Addu might have some cloud coverage," said the official.

The MET office predicts that Male' skies are expected to be clear during the eclipse but Addu's skies might be cloudy.

An official from MET has told Mihaaru News that it is their professional opinion that the weather in Male' will be clear and good in general. The official also said that it is their belief that the Northern and Central regions of Maldives will see clear skies with minor cloud coverage.

"However, Addu might have some cloud coverage," said the official.

Many parts in Asia, Europe and Africa will also see the blood moon, a phenomenon that won't be seen for thousands of years.

A blood moon occurs when sunlight passes through the Earth's atmosphere and hits the surface of the moon. When the moon is fully engulfed by Earth's umbra that is when a blood moon occurs. When blue wavelengths are shorter than red wavelengths, this phenomenon occurs.

The lunar eclipse will begin tonight at 8:28pm. The eclipse will be at its peak during 11:11pm and will end at 1:55am.

As per the circular sent to islands by the Islamic Ministry, eclipse prayers are to take place tonight at 11:12pm, to be held at the largest mosque in each respective island.
