Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that applications for the 200 rowhouses developed in Thinadhoo will be opened on Sunday.
The 200 rowhouses in Thinadhoo were developed by a joint venture of Sri Lanka's Sierra Construction and Star Construction and Engineers, at MVR 1.2 million per flat. The project started in 2022.
The rowhouses are 700sqft in size, and built with two storeys.
The Thinadhoo council announced it was accepting applications for the rowhouses in February this year. However, the Housing Ministry later cancelled this announcement.
In an announcement issued yesterday, the Housing MInistry stated that applications for the rowhouses can be submitted via their Hiyaavehi portal from 9am on Sunday until November 7.
The Ministry also published the policy on issuing Thinadhoo rowhouses yesterday. As per this, persons from GDh atoll, who are above the age of 18 are eligible to apply. Persons who have moved to Thinadhoo, and lived there for a minimum of 10 consecutive years can also apply.
Other conditions include:
- applicants must not have purchased, or agreed to purchase land of 600 sqft or bigger
- applicants must not possess a government owned land of 600sqft or larger or possess a flat or unit or rowhouse from a building that is to be split amongst heirs from any island. If such a property is owned, the applicants must agree to cede it
- applicants should not stand to possess land upwards of 600sqft through diving any land received from the State from any island. If such a land is to be received, applicant must agree to relinquish it
