Fuvahmulah Airport has resumed services today after a fire truck was taken there from Addu last night.

The Fuvahmulah Airport was temporarily shut down from Monday in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority guidelines due to the breakdown of its fire truck.

As sea travel to and from Fuvahmulah is challenging, many were left stranded on the island over the past two days.

Fuvahmulah Mayor Ali Rafeeq confirmed to Mihaaru News that airport operations have now been resumed after a fire truck was brought from Addu last night.

Rafeeq said that the first flight since resumption is scheduled for this afternoon. At present, only Maldivian operates flights to Fuvahmulah.

Ibrahim Shareef, Managing Director at Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates regional airports as well now, said yesterday that since the company took over operations of regional airports, it has also begun overseeing ground handling and the condition of fire fighting equipment.

"No maintenance has been done on anything. We have begun a process of emergency purchase of equipment. However, there is a lot of customizing needed when purchasing fire fighting equipment," Shareef said then.
